Forever musician
Friday, 16 July 2010

During the past six & onethird months, I’ve learnt a lot. In fact, too much for me to handle. It’s mostly life lessons. I’ve had my ups and my downs, my lows and my highs. There are highlights that I know I’ll never forget even as I grow older. April 2010, a month filled with heartwrench and hardwork. The SYF marching assessment experience has let me learn so much. I learnt how to be determined and persevere to get what I want. In our case, that would be for distinction. I learnt how winning doesn’t mean everything, and that it’s the process that counts. I learnt how people of different attitudes and characters can come together when they’re all aiming for the same thing. I learnt how to have fun during marching. J June 2010, a month filled with warmth, gratitude and happiness. I was elated when I found out you all went to so much trouble just to celebrate my birthday. It was so sweet to see you all come together and cooperate to make me happy. I love the video (thanks to selina and her pro video-editing skills). :) This birthday tops all of my past birthdays! Be sure I won’t forget about it. Finally, July 2010. A month filled with heartwrench, hardwork, warmth, gratitude, happiness, and longing. We had fun preparing for the concert. Most of you were forced to break your barriers and move forward. Such as upgrading. I had fun bonding with you all. Other than the concert itself, my favorite time of that day was when we were sitting in a circle and having our dinner together. Bondbondbond :) I hope you all enjoyed yourselves on that day, cause I did. Although this is my last year, and I have already stepped down, I will still come back and care for all of you. You can count on me to be there whenever you need guidance. I know that you all are sad that I’m leaving, I’m sad too. Although I know I’m still not ready to let go of band and step down, I will try. At least I still have the memories, and they will stick with me forever. Being in band has allowed me to grow in many ways, and I hope you guys will too. Enjoy yourselves while you still can, and get serious when you have to. This way, you will have no regrets.

Selina: You are now the pillar that supports this section. I have faith in you, so you must have faith in yourself too. I believe in you. There will be times when you really feel like giving up altogether. But I know you will be able to pull through. The problem with you is that you don’t have enough confidence in yourself. You always doubt yourself and deem that you will fail in whatever is tasked to you. For example, high notes. You always say you can’t do it. But when I am playing with you, i hear your high notes loud and clear. Believe in yourself. If you don’t, who will? Remember that I will always be here for you. :)

Chanel, Andrea & Cheryl: You are now the seniors of the trumpet section and in band. Be the best role model you can be, and the juniors will follow in your footsteps. You guys also need to have confidence in yourselves. However, do not overestimate your own capabilities and strive too high. Always start with realistic goals, work towards them, and slowly work your way up. A good sound requires a good foundation. There is no shortcut. When people criticize you, take it in as constructive criticism and work on it. Never take it personally. Cause people criticize when they care about you. I will always be here for you. :)

Sec 1s: My dear sec 1s, I am so proud to call you my juniors. Although you are not as good as the seniors in the section, but as long as you work hard towards it, you will definitely be able to be equally good as the seniors. I know that you all may find full band and sectionals boring at times, however, these are steps you take to improve. When you are able to play better, you will start to find them very enjoyable. Respect your seniors, your tutor, and your conductors. If they ever scold you, it is also for your own good. Take it in and work on correcting your mistake. Learn to differentiate between right and wrong, and make all the right choices. Always here for you. :)

I have faith in all of you. Make the right choices and enjoy your lives! :)

Always yours, JoeyWong SL 2009-2010
